Grow in knowledge and love for reading and learning...

Accelerated Reader ProgramAR

At HHCA, every student is encouraged to make reading a way of life.  The AR Program helps Language Arts teachers monitor students' vocabulary growth, literacy skills development, and reading skills taught through basal readers and other reading textbooks.  It also allows teachers to tailor instruction to each child and set individual learning goals based upon each student's independent reading level.

The South Carolina Association of School Librarians  (SCASL) began their Book Award
program back in 1976 with a total of sixteen schools participating. Today there are over 300 schools involved and over 30,000 students voting for their favorite books. The South Carolina Book Award program invites students in kindergarten through twelfth grade to vote for their favorite book in categories ranging from picture books to the young adult category.  Each year a committee selects 20 books in each category for the students to read throughout the year and then collects the votes,
awarding the author a medal from the state of South Carolina.
