23-24 Year-In-Review

• Two additional Advanced Placement (AP) courses were introduced: AP Psychology and AP Seminar.  AP Seminar is part of the prestigious AP Capstone track. This year, 97 students took a total of 182 AP exams, an increase from 69 students and 99 exams last year. HHCA was recognized on the AP School Honor Roll, reflecting a culture that maximizes college readiness with ample opportunity for students to earn college credit.
   
• The Class of 2024 received 300 acceptances to 114 different colleges and universities, earned over $5.65 million in merit awards & scholarships, and . Read more about this historic class here.
   
• The Academic Resource Center (ARC) celebrated its 20th anniversary of serving families. Read more here.
   
• Mentors and students collaborated with industry experts to bring learning to life. Just a few included: Marine Biology experts from SCDNR, Beaufort County Treasurer Maria Walls, a local community historian, a meteorologist  from WSAV, and more!
   
•  The Guidance Team hosted our first annual all-school Career Expo during which students K-12 met with business leaders and community partners. Here's a glance

• Nearly 100 students took advantage of our Dual Enrollment program partnerships, earning credits in hundreds of college-level courses.

• Middle School science students celebrated this spring's historic solar eclipse with a study about the event before building their own Eclipse Projection Viewers so that they could observe the eclipse in various different ways, recording data, and preparing for follow-up discussion . • HHCA students who achieved academic excellence were honored among mentors, friends, and families. Highlights including prestigious college book awards, college scholars, merit awards, highest average awards, and more. Read about this year's honorees here.
   
• 20 HHCA students representing grades 2-12 won multiple awards at the annual statewide Literary Meet. Read more here

• Earlier this year, Head of School Doug Langhals shared a series of video messages in which he discussed HHCA's identity as a school and shared helpful information for both new and long-time families. Watch the series here.
   
• HHCA's Guidance Team worked with Student Council to organize a Club Walk during the first full week of school, which showcased a wide variety of groups in which MS/US students can participate. This year, more than 25 clubs are offered!  View a list of HHCA Clubs
   
• Over 20 student legislative leaders represented HHCA at the annual Youth In Government conference in Columbia, SC, earning top honors and passing several articles of legislation. Read the story here
   

• Lower School introduced a new Walking Club. Weekly walks in the morning before school allow our littlest Eagles to get in some steps before heading to class.
   

• Throughout the year, HHCA connected with alumni and shared their stories in an alumni spotlight series. Meet some incredible HHCA Alumni here.
   

• In November, the HHCA community came together for another Magical Night On The May to support the Dream Big Annual Fund and enjoy fellowship and community. Learn more here.

• The Eagles added three state championships to an already extensive list that now includes 17 titles since 2015: Varsity Football, Varsity Girls Basketball, and Baseball.
   
• 13 students from the Class of 2024 will further their athletic careers at the collegiate level, six of them at the Division One level. Read about them here.
   
• Nearly 50 athletes and coaches were given regional, state, and even national honors. Three HHCA Coaches were named SCISA Regional Coach Of The Year.
   
• Two teams placed second in the state: Sporting Clays and Boys Golf.  Also finishing second in the state was the HHCA Girls Swim Team. Cross Country Boys finished 2nd in the SCISA Region Championship.
   
• Two new spring sports opportunities for student-athletes were added: Lacrosse and Track & Field.
   
• Eight former Eagles were inducted into the HHCA Athletics Hall of Fame.
   

• Two Middle School teams completed their season undefeated: MS Volleyball and MS Boys Soccer.
   

• HHCA Athletics unveiled a new brand logo representing one of the program's most important core values: Audience of One.

• HHCA Theater delivered four incredible main stage productions involving hundreds of students:
  - Disney's The Aristocats KIDS (Lower & Middle School)
  - Little Women The Broadway Musical (Upper School)
  - Music Man (Middle & Upper School)
  - Finding Nemo JR. (Middle School)
   
• HHCA Theater won the SCISA state one-act competition for the 2nd year in a row. Read more here.
   
• Two HHCA seniors directed a full Main State Community Theater Production, Into The Woods Jr, in the culmination of their two-year Diploma With Distinction project. Read more here.
   
• The Eagles Jazz Band was one of only two private schools in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry region invited to perform at the Savannah Jazz Festival. They also attended the national Jazz Educators Network conference in New Orleans.
   
• 11 HHCA music students were selected (out of both public and private schools from across the state) to audition for South Carolina's All-Region and All-Sate band.
   

• World renowned pianist Aaron Diehl visited HHCA in March for a private performance for fine arts students followed by a meet and greet with students. Read more here.
   

• Fall, Winter, and Spring Concerts were held that featured musical performances spanning Eagles Jazz Band,  MS/US Chorus, Lower School Performances, HHCA strings, etc.
   

• The first-ever all-school Visual Arts Exhibition was held this spring, with thousands of pieces of art displayed all around campus in an exhibit-style showcase. Each installation was centered around our school's spiritual life theme: Marvelous Light.

• HHCA students logged nearly 8000 hours of community service (and counting)! In a new effort this year, over half of those hours were completed off campus.
   
• The US student commons area outside the Spiritual Life office was upgraded with the addition of The Coffee Bar, a gathering place for coffee, conversation, and connection. Read more here.
   
• Middle School and Upper School students spent time off campus at annual retreats, to bond and grow together as the school year began. • Students worshiped together and heard from various speakers about this year’s theme from 1 Peter 2:9 (Marvelous Light) during Chapel on Fridays. The student Worship Leadership Team invigorated our time of worship together all year. The first-ever Lower School 5th grade worship team was formed, and leads LS students in worship music during Chapel each week. 
   
• Testimony Thursdays began this semester as a gathering where mentors and others share their personal testimonies with Upper School students.
