Our Guidance Team's College/Career Prep Workshop Series offers several opportunities for
Upper School Students to get
college-ready as they navigate the college application process.

Workshops (outlined below) are open to
current Juniors (Class of 2024) until one week prior to each event, then open to current Sophomores (Class of 2025) until full.

College Essay Workshop | April 3-5, 7:00-9:00 PM

Workshop Overview: Join us for a College Essay Workshop led by Laura Mellberg (College Lab 360) and Sarah Neal (Neal College Advisors). Mellberg and Neal are independent college consultants with over 20 combined years of professional writing and editing experience utilizing proven methods. This workshop includes a one-on-one brainstorming session and continues with a group workshop. The end result is a polished essay.

Date: Monday through Wednesday, April 3-5, 2023

Time: 7:00-9:00 PM

Location: HHCA Cafe

Cost: $250

Who can attend? The College Essay Workshop is open to the Class of 2024 (current Juniors) only.

Lowcountry Test Prep | SAT Workshops

Class of 2024 Student & Parent College Night | May 15, 6:00 PM

Overview:
Learn about the college admissions process directly from college admissions reps, who will be on campus for this informative event, as well as current seniors who are in the midst of navigating college admissions now, who will be on hand as well.

Get answers to questions like:

What are the most important parts of a college application?
What are colleges looking for in the students they admit?
Are some programs/majors more competitive than others?
What should I write my essay about?
Should I submit test scores or not?
What happens if I get deferred?
Do I need letters of recommendation?
. . . and more!

Overview:

In-School Mini College Resume and Essay Workshops will be held during 3rd and 4th blocks during this week-long time frame.

Who Should Attend:

Dual Enrollment English students
Rising seniors not taking an English class this semester

Past College Prep Events

Clemson Univ. Bus Tour

Trip Overview: This is a one-day College Bus Tour to visit the Clemson campus.

Date: Wednesday, March 1, 2023

Time: Depart HHCA at 6:00 AM; Return to HHCA at 7:00 PM

Location: Clemson University

Cost: $80 (includes lunch and transportation via charter bus). Discounts are available to eligible students. See Mrs. Robinson for details.

Who can attend? The Clemson Bus Tour is open to the Class of 2024 (current Juniors) until February 10, 2023, then open to the Class of 2025 (current Sophomores) until full or until February 17, 2023.

Max Participants: 50 students

College Resume Workshop

Workshop Overview: Create or revise your resume for internships, future employers, scholarships, and college applications. This resume workshop will provide templates, detailed explanations, and a step-by-step process to create an effective resume.

Workshop leader, Laura Mellberg, is an independent college consultant at College Lab 360 and guides high school students in the US and Europe through the college admission process.

Date: Tuesday, February 7, 2023

Time: 7:00-9:00 PM

Cost: $50
Scholarships are available to eligible students. Contact Mrs. Robinson for information.

Who can attend? The workshop is open to the HHCA's Class of 2024 (current Juniors) until January 31, then open to the Class of 2025 (current Sophomores) until full.

Max Class Size: 15 students

SAT Prep Workshop

Workshop Overview: Learn the top strategies and skills for achieving your best on the SAT. Students will review and practice for the SAT and more in this 5-hour workshop facilitated by Tracy Cooperman of Endeavor Research.

Tracy has over 20 years of experience improving student test scores with outstanding results.

Date: Saturday, January 28, 2023

Time: 9:00 AM-2:00 PM

Location: HHCA Upper School

Cost: $120 (Includes lunch, workbooks, sample and practice questions, and answer books) Scholarships are available to eligible students. Contact Mrs. Robinson for information.

Consider taking both the SAT Prep and the ACT Prep workshops for $216 (10% discount)!

Who can attend? The SAT Prep Workshop is open to the Class of 2024 (current Juniors) until January 23, then open to the Class of 2025 (current Sophomores) until full.
