John Mossing

John Mossing is known for his curiosity, diligence, and lighthearted nature.  Never shying away from asking the pertinent questions in class or ensuring he has exhaustively covered the material in his answers, he elevates his performance with an unassuming intelligence and under appreciated wit.  Continuously pursuing a deeper understanding and reflecting the characteristics imbued within HHCA’s graduate profile, even in those late hours spent alone studying before practice, this individual’s efforts are seen and recognized.

John embodies all that I wish I would have been as a student at his age- dedicated, skilled, and capable.  He lights up the room, challenges his peers, and raises the level of my instruction.

Peter Rein

Peter brings a seriousness and efficiency to his work that reflects understanding and motivates those around him to perform to their potentials. Well known for his ability to synthesize content and provide clear, concise, and accurate responses to class questions, we all expect great things as he pursues his career interests in engineering. 

Peter’s consistency and intellect provide enviable tools, yet he is respected by his peers because of his effort, willingness to engage discussions, and collaborative nature.  If I were an employer, he would be my ideal candidate to hire.

Lillian Dowler

Lillian is recognized by her desire to serve others. She has sought extracurricular opportunities and forged relationships with professionals that supplement her yearly coursework, even doubling up in science and spending lunches with mentors to soak up more knowledge. Her contributions have impacted students of all grades through her internship with the school nurse and efforts to accommodate CPR training and school physicals.  In the classroom, she emotes a visible passion for the content and desire to internalize the importance of each major concept.  We are very excited to follow her appointment to The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets. 

Lillian possesses all of the qualities to make a successful nurse, career science learner, and an impact within her community.  Her maturity, vision for her future, and servant’s heart are going to a great place and will be missed immensely next year!”

Regan Matthews

Regan has compiled quite the resume throughout his HHCA tenure, exhausting his enrollment in HHCA’s science course offerings and rising to the top of each with his unparalleled performance.  Presenting the award, Mr. Parker Collins noted,  "I can attest to the depth of understanding, consistency in effort, and still not-fully-understood aura that pulses from his classroom presence.  This young man, even when in academic disagreements with his friends, finds a way to garner the respect of all those with whom he comes in contact and is recognized for intellectual gifts."  

Regan impresses with his academic aptitude, servant’s heart, engagement of and challenges posed to others, faith, and desire to achieve.  Regan is at the top of his class for a reason- his intellect and work ethic combine with a caring disposition to make the most of the gifts bestowed upon him.

Malachi Somaio

As presented by Dr. Victoria Chang, Malachi is distinguished by an artistic heart, an analytical mind, and an indomitable work ethic. His sophisticated thinking, innate curiosity, and intellectual gifts consistently shine in the classroom. He is equally defined by his kindness and respect for others, qualities deeply appreciated by both his peers and his teachers. His intellect is matched by his humility, as he continually seeks to refine his work through feedback, active engagement, and sustained effort.

Maddie LeFew

As presented by Dr. Victoria Chang during the ceremony, Maddie a young lady who is a wonderful asset to every classroom she is in. She challenges her classmates to be their very best by being an exemplary model of hard work, thoughtfulness, and humility. This student has the natural relational gift of being able to work with anyone, while showing kindness and consideration for all. In addition, she is a very talented and articulate writer who has excelled in all of her English classes, while exhibiting a passion for the content and a true interest in continuously growing as a learner.

Luke Williams

When presenting the award, Mrs. Christine Jackson shared these words: Having a global perspective at the high school level is a gift that opens doors for making connections worldwide.  In addition to fostering this perspective, Luke has the talent to communicate in many culturally diverse environments and the passion for furthering those abilities and connections. From completely immersing himself in the language on NPH trips and being the students'-appointed translator to taking on the challenge of Online AP Spanish, a feat which only the bravest dare try, Luke Williams has embraced every aspect of learning Spanish, both content and culture.  His passion for the language and for communicating with others will serve him well in his major of international relations and linguistics at the University of Michigan. 

During the ceremony, Mrs. Jordin Harvey-Cruz presented Luke with the Premio de Honor, which goes to the best graduating senior of HHCA's Chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica.  Luke served as the Society's president, holding true to the values of promoting culture and language. 

William Adams

As presented by Mrs. Courtney Hayes during the ceremony, William is a student who exemplifies curiosity, creativity, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. While his future ambitions are rooted in a STEM field, he consistently found ways to connect those interests with the humanities, bringing a fresh and innovative perspective to every project. He never missed an opportunity to transform traditional assignments into 3D-printed creations, reimagining how history can be explored and experienced. His work on a museum exhibit highlighting Robert Smalls showcased both his dedication and his ability to make the past feel relevant and engaging. When a local history scholarship opportunity arose this year, he eagerly embraced it, staying after class to dive deeper into research, exchange ideas, and uncover fascinating historical details. His passion and initiative have truly set him apart.

Audrey Burden

As presented by Mrs. Courtney Hayes during the ceremony, Audrey is a student whose quiet dedication and commitment to excellence have set a powerful example. She approaches every assignment with care and integrity, never willing to put her name on anything that is not her absolute best. That standard has consistently paid off. Her work on a local history project was selected to travel as part of a Robert Smalls exhibit, an honor that speaks to both the quality and impact of her contributions. In economics, she and her group produced a project that was recognized by the Don Ryan Center as the best they have seen in five years. Beyond her academic achievements, she brings a steady, positive attitude to class each day—no frills, just hard work, consistency, and a genuine desire to do well.

Malachi Somaio

Presented by Mrs. Tahnee Kuder, Malachi is a student who demonstrates both creative vision and technical excellence across 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional media. He approaches each piece with clear intention, thoughtfully developing the concept behind his work, many times drawing from his faith. His work reflects focus, attention to detail, and countless hours of dedication—resulting in truly impressive, well-crafted pieces.

Hudson Baker

The Band Dedication Award is presented to a senior who has exemplified loyalty and commitment to the HHCA band program throughout his/her entire tenure — demonstrating leadership, exceptional musical aptitude, and a spirit of service to their fellow musicians.

Joel Moriah

First introduced in 1955, the John Philip Sousa Band Award® is one of the most distinguished honors in scholastic music, recognizing superior musicianship and outstanding dedication as a top senior band member. Established with the blessing of Helen Sousa Albert and Priscilla Sousa, daughters of the legendary composer and bandmaster, this tradition carries both history and prestige.

This year’s recipient has thrown himself wholeheartedly into every dimension of HHCA's band program — leading on alto saxophone, anchoring the Eagles Drum Line on quintoms, serving as drummer and vocalist on the worship team, and pouring into the next generation as an instructor at Lessons Academy.

HHCA’s Diploma with Distinction program is designed to prepare students for the rigors of higher academic institutions and develop analytical and communication skills that immediately impact their professional environments.

With the support of a number of school and community mentors, Senior Anderson Talbert has successfully navigated a project proposal, annotated bibliography, literature review, experimental design, and is preparing a defense of his thesis and products. During the ceremony, he spoke about his project is titled: Uncovering Civil War History in the Lowcountry: Using Artifact Collections to Reconstruct and Educate on South Carolina's Role in America's Greatest Fight.

The High Point University Book Award is a distinguished honor for a sophomore student who shows great academic and social prowess, models an intuitive growth mindset, as well as demonstrate excellence and service in and out of the classroom. 

Mason Mikkelson

Putting knowledge into action for the betterment of humanity is at the foundation of a University of Vermont education. The Citizen Scholar Book Award celebrates high school students around the globe who demonstrate that spirit of citizenship and scholarship. They may have campaigned for a cause, founded a community action group, or conducted research aiding social progress. These students are the movers, shakers, and change makers of the world.

The Saint Michael’s College Book Award for Academic Achievement & Social Conscience is awarded each year to high school juniors throughout the United States as well as internationally. The Book Award recognizes students’ academic success and exemplary community service involvement. Their accomplishments embody St. Michael’s commitment to intellectual achievement, social justice and concern for others.

Luke Strebe - Leadership Award | Travis Pittman - Achievement Award

The Clarkson University Leadership and Achievement awards are designed to recognize junior students who demonstrate strong leadership qualities, positively impact their high school and local community, and have a proven academic record. The recipients of the Clarkson Achievement and Leadership Awards receive a certificate of recognition and a $20,000 to $55,000 annual scholarship if accepted and enrolled full-time at Clarkson.

Mollie Mikkelson

Awardees of the George Mason University Honors College Book Award have made significant contributions to their communities and classrooms in a manner reflective of Mason’s Honors students, who demonstrate curiosity, knowledge, an ability to solve problems and overcome challenges, civic engagement, and a sense of responsibility to others.

Sadie Marcotte

The UVA Jefferson Book Award recognizes outstanding high school juniors who embody Thomas Jefferson’s commitment to innovation, creativity and the spirit of discovery. HHCA selected this student for the award, which is sponsored by the UVA Clubs and Global Engagement at the University of Virginia. She and other selected students across the globe are receiving a copy of Mr. Jefferson’s Telescope: A History of the University of Virginia in 100 Objects, along with a book plate and certificate signed by UVA President James E. Ryan.

Eli Taylor

Harvard's mission statement is: “to educate the citizens and citizen-leaders of our society. We do this through our commitment to the transformative power of a liberal arts and sciences education.” The Harvard Prize Book Award seeks to select the student who displays excellence in scholarship, high character, and notable achievements in non-academic fields.

To further encourage excellence in our competency-based academic model, mentors nominated students, being mindful of the areas of agency, collaboration, and written and oral communication. Nominees from all departments were consolidated, and those students nominated by three or more mentors, but not receiving the highest academic average award in any course, are the recipients of the award. The Merit Award winners represent those students who consistently produce high-quality projects, made meaningful contributions to class discussions, and demonstrated ownership of their own learning that elevated and impacted the classroom environment.

Mr. Jason Suddeth presented the inaugural HHCA Upper School Community Service Award to Senior Summer Shultz

Sponsored by the American Legion, Palmetto Boys State was established in 1935 to cultivate future male government leaders. It is considered the premier state-wide youth leadership and citizenship development program.

Palmetto Girls State was established in 1947, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, to develop future female government leaders. It is considered the premier state-wide youth leadership and citizenship development program for girls.

Presented annually, the student receiving the Governor’s Citizenship Award demonstrates outstanding achievement in the areas of Character, Service, Leadership, Responsibility, and Discipline.

HHCA continues to forge community partnerships in an effort to fully immerse our students in experiential learning.  Through our internship program, apprenticeship-like experiences enable students to spend time with professionals, engage in activities that have the potential to fill their futures, and reflect on the day-to-day operations and paths necessary for success.  In addition to the on-site work, class efforts to identify professionalism, develop probing, research questions, and further research areas of interest supplemented student experiences. 

This year, there were 63 total internships offered and 58 different students who participated.  Students were exposed to professions ranging from real estate and hospitality to architecture and design.  

During the Evening of Excellence ceremony, Juliet Blackwell and Brody Mayles spoke about their experiences. Each explained how they had been able to make positive impacts, participated in creative and varied professional areas, and garnered the appreciation and encouragement of their supervisors. 

PEO is an international philanthropic educational organization dedicated to motivating, educating, and celebrating women. Through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans, P.E.O. supports women pursuing undergraduate and graduate education. The Women in Education Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who has been accepted into a college program leading to teacher certification and a career in education.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
