This year, HHCA is excited to expand the class offering to include lower and middle school girls, as well as our 9th and 10th-grade girls.

Please register early, as space is limited to 20 seats per class.

These courses are being offered at no cost to HHCA families, thanks to a generous grant from the Izant Family Foundation.

The registration deadline is Friday, April 9, 2021.

Registration is REQUIRED and signed waivers must be submitted before April 9, 2021.

This course -- designed for elementary-aged girls and their female caregivers -- feels more like play than preparation. Girls are taught to trust their instincts, recognize manipulative behavior, and use their voice with new physical skills to run, yell, and tell in order to get the help they need. Advocating for oneself, both verbally and mentally, begins here.

  • MISS INDEPENDENT (12:30-2:30 PM)
for HHCA Middle School Girls

This course teaches middle school girls to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships and the dangers hidden in social media. Participants learn to use their voice, recognize their own worth, and fight back if needed, with precision and determination, to get to safety and get help quickly.

Space is limited. Click HERE to register.

  • SASS 1 (Freshmen/Sophomores: 5:00-7:00 PM; Juniors/Seniors: 3:00-9:00 PM)
This course is for HHCA Upper School Girls who have not taken HHCA's SASS GO course to date.

Girls are trained physically and mentally for the most common threats to their safety. This course is paramount to creating a community of women and girls who know their inherent worth and how to advocate for it, both verbally and physically.  Training will include hands-on/active self-defense & awareness training led by instructors from SASS GO.

Due to course content, Freshman and Sophomore girls will take the SASS GO safety training (5:00-7:00 PM).  Juniors and Seniors will take the SASS GO safety training AND will also participate in Mr. Bryant's portion of the course (see below for details), hence the longer course time for the older girls.

HHCA Juniors and Seniors will participate in Mr. Bryant's portion of the course, which includes instruction in the usage of common self-defense products including inert pepper spray, stun guns, and other campus safety and personal self-defense resources. He will also provide an in-depth look at improving situational awareness, and protection against physical and psychological abuse, learning from recent attacks, victims, and cases. The following topics will be covered:
  • College Campus Security
  • Dorm Room / Apartment Safety
  • The “Crime Triangle"
  • Safety in Numbers
  • Uber, Lyft, Rideshare Cautions
  • Campus Safety Apps & Technology
  • Parking Lot / Parking Garage Safety

  • SASS 2 (Juniors and Seniors: 3:00 - 9:00 PM)
This course is for HHCA Junior and Senior Girls who COMPLETED the HHCA course in Dec. 2019 and/or Dec. 2020

Girls review material covered in SASS 1 and learn additional physical and mental skills to safeguard them in various scenarios. This course builds on the power and purpose discovered in SASS 1. This class will involve slightly more physical activity than SASS 1. Training will include hands-on/active self-defense & awareness training led by instructors from SASS GO.
