INDIVIDUALIZED GUIDANCE AND PLANNING
_____________________________

To help Middle School students reach their full potential, the HHCA Guidance Team creates an individualized academic and social/emotional growth plan for every student.

The team meets with families at the beginning of Middle School and throughout each year to assess the personalized plan and to offer support and guidance as students navigate Middle School.

Working with our Guidance Team, students also have the opportunity to take personality and strength assessments and interest inventories designed to help them discover their strengths.  In Middle School, students take Life Skills class led by our Guidance Team mentors.

Students also receive small group and/or one-on-one counseling where they are given support in all aspects of their life, to better equip them to fulfill their God-given potential.

SIXTH GRADE

Sixth-grade students work closely with Ms. Murphy to complete the Career Key, a 20-minute assessment that identifies careers and college majors to match their interests, traits, skills, and abilities based upon Holland’s Theory of Career Choice. Students also work with Ms. Murphy and our mentors to explore their learning styles and interests and develop an academic plan that fosters communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.

Parents and students are encouraged to take these steps towards personal growth and academic development:

- Establish an academic system that works best for the student

- Check myHHCA weekly to be informed of grades/homework assignments

- Seek extracurricular opportunities on and off-campus

- Find a local/regional organization with which to volunteer (suggested: 3 hours)

- Explore summer enrichment opportunities

SEVENTH GRADE

HHCA seventh-grade students work closely with Ms. Murphy, Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Curtis throughout the year in their Life Skills course, exploring God-given wiring through personality and strength assessments and developing financial management skills through Junior Achievement, a program that fosters work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Through a variety of experiential learning opportunities, students are inspired to dream big and reach their full potential.

EIGHTH GRADE

HHCA eighth graders sharpen their leadership skills during Bible class with Mrs. Smith and Mr. Curtis and work closely with Ms. Murphy to examine the results of their Career Cluster Finder, Learning Styles Inventory, and Gallup Strengths Finder.

These tools help students identify areas of interest, learning style preferences on a categorical scale, and their top three strengths and career profiles associated with each one. During this important year, students and parents also work with the guidance team to create an academic plan for their high school career.

To consider:

- Assess academic systems in place that best support you

- Creating S.M.A.R.T. goals for the year

- Finding an organization with which to serve (suggested: 9 hours)

- Search for enrichment programs
