PLEASE NOTE:

Summer Reading and Assignments are for EVERY student, whether taking a year-long course or a semester-long course. Students taking a semester-long course beginning in January 2022 are still required to turn in their assigned summer work on the first day of school (August 17). For these courses, mentors will "review and refresh" the assigned book during the first week of the second semester.

Optional: Battle of the Books Teams for MS and US
HHCA middle and upper school students are invited to participate on HHCA's Battle of the Books (BOB) teams, which meet weekly during the Fall semester. Team members read books from SCISA's Battle of the Books required reading list and then compete together in SCISA's regional Battle of the Books competition to prove their recall of the books and their authors.  For those who plan to participate on the HHCA BOB team, summer is a great time to begin reading books from SCISA's 2021 Battle of the Books list!

About Bridge to Terabithia

"Jess Aaron's greatest ambition is to be the fastest runner in the 5th grade. He's been practicing all summer and can't wait to see his classmates' faces when he beats them all. But on the first day of school, a new kid, a new girl, boldly crosses over to the boy's side of the playground and outruns everyone. That's not a very promising beginning for a friendship, nut Jess and Leslie Burke became inseparable. Together, she and Jess create Terabithia, a magical kingdom in the woods where the two of them reign as king and queen, and their imaginations set the only limits. Then one morning, a terrible tragedy occurs. Only when Jess comes to terms with this tragedy does he finally understand the strength and courage Leslie has given him."

But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she's determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous."

Divergent is the first book in a series of four: Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, and Four: A Divergent Collection.
