HHCA Eagles Win 2023 SCISA AAA Varsity Football State Championship
With a 28-6 victory over Wilson Hall in the SCISA AAA Varsity Football State Championship on November 18th, HHCA's Varsity Football team earned the Eagles seventh State Championship title in program's history, and the third in the last five years.
The championship-game weekend was kicked off Friday when parents and fans joined the Eagles at the end of their last practice of the season for the "Senior Final Lap" tradition. Here is a short look at the special afternoon.
The morning of the game, the team took part in a final pre-game Chapel and enjoyed breakfast courtesy of Southcoastal Fellowship of Christian Athletes. As they headed to Charleston for the game, busses were escorted off campus and out of town by Town of Bluffton Police and Bluffton Fire Department.
In the championship matchup, Senior Quarterback Dylan Clark threw for two touchdowns and ran for two, finishing with 274 yards of total offense. This breakdown of the game from The Island Packet noted "The Eagles got on the board first when Clark scored on a 4-yard run to make it 7-0 with 6:57 left in the first quarter. Hilton Head Christian’s defense kept it that way with a big stand as they stopped the Barons on the 9-yard line to begin the second quarter. The score stayed that way until Clark hit Tyshon Mansell on a screen pass and the speedy receiver took it 60 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0 with 9:58 in the third quarter. The Eagles’ defense set up their next score as they recovered a fumble at the Barons’ 15. A few plays later, Clark scored on a 1-yard run to make it 21-0 with 8:04 in third. But HHCA answered right back as Clark hit Gage Zatalokin for a 30-yard touchdown pass with 3:08 left in the third."
We kept on getting better. We aren’t perfect, but at times we are pretty good. Just a great job by our young men and our coaches. I’m real happy for Hilton Head Christian Academy and the community.
- HHCA Eagles Head Football Coach Ron Peduzzi
The HHCA community was represented well at Charleston Southern University's Buccaneer Field, the host of the2023 SCISA Football State Championship games. Attending to cheer on the Eagles were hundreds of fans along with the HHCA Varsity Cheerleading Team, the Eagles Pep Band, and HHCA Flag Runners from The Cage. Many HHCA team families enjoyed tailgating together at a meal for the team before and after the game.
Much more important the the trophies and titles, of course, are the ways in which HHCA will use the opportunity to make an impact with our vision To Know Christ and Make Him Known.
Congratulations again to the HHCA Eagles, a team (and a community) that plays and stands for an "Audience of One."
