HHCA Unveils Plans To Build New Academic Facility

Students, Families Gather For Special Announcement Event

On Friday, March 1, 2024, Hilton Head Christian Academy (HHCA) announced a significant milestone and the public phase of Created to Soar, a campaign to raise $7.8 million to fund a new academic facility for its growing school community. The school has already met more than 80% of its goal through private fundraising.

The announcement was made at a special event for students and parents, during which Head of School Doug Langhals shared the news that HHCA will break ground this spring on the construction of a new 16,500-square-foot academic building. A private reception was held on Thursday evening, February 29, to thank donors who have contributed over $6 million to the campaign in just over two years during the quiet phase of the campaign.

Our students were created to soar, and this campaign is an opportunity to expand our campus, giving them more room to do so. With the incredible generosity of our donors, we are very close to our goal for this important project. But the work is not done, and we are excited to invite others to join this effort.

- Doug Langhals, Head of school

The new facility will primarily serve high school students. It will offer ten learning spaces, a third art studio, a new science lab, a student commons area, and a second campus cafe.

HHCA's school community has experienced significant growth since moving to Bluffton in 2021, and demand for the school's unique, inquiry-based learning delivered from a Christian worldview continues to increase. The 27.7-acre campus, home to over 630 students, was designed from the ground up to accommodate growing academic, athletic, and fine arts programs that allow students to discover and develop their God-given talents.

Choate Construction, general contractor for the project, was onsite for the campus celebration and engaged with students in hands-on construction–themed activities. Students were treated to a virtual-reality walkthrough experience of the new building. Artistic renderings, provided by project partner Court Atkins Group Commercial, were on display for students, mentors, and parents to view.

The new Upper School building is a testament to HHCA's commitment to providing students with an exceptional educational environment rooted in Christian values. This state-of-the-art facility will accommodate our growing student population and foster innovation, collaboration, and spiritual development among students and mentors.

- Dana Taylor, HHCA Board Chair

A formal groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the site in April. To learn more about the Created to Soar capital campaign, visit hhca.org/createdtosoar.
