Class of 2016
Background:
I attended HHCA from 5th-12th grade. After HHCA, I attended Clemson University * majored in Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Management. Following Clemson, God had other plans for me, & I set out to earn my Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am now licensed as a professional counselor and practice in the Atlanta area where I have the unique opportunity of creating adventure-based therapy programs for 18-25 year olds learning how to transition in and through young adulthood! I met my husband, Parker, at Clemson, and we have called Atlanta (Smyrna) home for the past 4 years, but (not so) secretly hoping we get back to the Lowcountry at some point (God willing)!
What was your most memorable HHCA experience?
Missions trips hands down. They provided so much perspective to those who went and allowed us to create relationships with students in other grades.
How did HHCA shape you spiritually?
For me, HHCA felt like a place where I could be authentically me. For my spiritual walk, that looked like feeling comfortable to ask questions or express confusion over something that I didn't quite yet "get" about God. Through those moments of transparency, I learned more about God's kindness and that He graciously shows himself more clearly when we seek after Him...even when we bring our questions.
What is one word to describe HHCA's impact on your life?
Better. For a while, I lacked perspective on the gift that HHCA was in my life, but as I began to see the many blessings and opportunities that were offered, I grew to realize that my life was better off because of HHCA. My spirituality and relationship with Jesus is better because of discipleship and the Life on Life program. My relationships and growth are better off because of the mentorship I received from teachers like Rebecca Joyner and Jen Denton. My academics and college success were better off because of amazing educators like Parker Collins and John Abbott.
I would tell just about anyone, that part of the reason I am where I am at this point in my life is because of the investment that others made into my life while attending HHCA.
