Class of 1998
Background:
I went to Clemson and later earned my Master in Health Administration (MHA) from MUSC. I began attending HHCA in kindergarten (which my youngest daughter will be doing next year!) My first recollection of HHCA is even younger than that as I sat (not very still) in a classroom while my mom taught other students in the early 1980s.
The Lord provided me with an opportunity as Group CEO of two Ambulatory Surgery Centers, which allowed us to transition back to Bluffton a few years ago. That was a gracious answer to many prayers and has allowed us to be closer to family, dear friends and the salt water! We are grateful to be raising our 3 girls in the Lowcountry and to have them attend HHCA.
How has HHCA shaped you spiritually?
One of the most significant impacts to my spiritual life was early morning Accountability Group breakfasts at Cracker Barrel with four other guys in my class, led by a dedicated teacher, Todd Devaney. It allowed us the opportunity to be transparent and provided the mentorship for growth, which nurtured the burgeoning independence of our faith. Similarly, the greatest impact on my life from HHCA was the positive influence of Christian friends I had (all of whom are still my best friends). Peer pressure often has a negative connotation, but positive peer pressure--pressure to make good choices and do the right thing is incredibly important.
What is one piece of advice that you would give to current HHCA students?
In alignment with Prov. 27:17 choose friends that challenge you to be better and to make the right (albeit difficult) choices, people who want you to be Christlike. Doing so will make all the difference in your life.
