Hannah Rose Harrison Brown

Class of 2017

Background:

I was an HHCA “lifer,” attending from Kindergarten to my graduation in 2017. I am also an “alumni of an alumni,” as my mom Dora Auld Harrison graduated from HHCA in 1987. My sister and all of my cousins attended HHCA, and my grandparents, Rosemary and Jim Auld, were two of the original founders. There is an “Auld Room'' on the Bluffton campus in their honor.

After HHCA, I attended the College of Charleston and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in public health, and then I went to the Medical University of South Carolina and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

I currently reside in Saint Augustine, Florida with my husband Alex and our two dogs. Alex and I met while attending HHCA and got married this past December. Mr. Suddeth officiated our wedding! I am a critical care registered nurse at Mayo Clinic as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice student, and my husband Alex is a Doctor of Physical Therapy student.

How did HHCA shape you spiritually?

HHCA provided me with several amazing teachers and mentors who I was able to speak to and connect with throughout difficult times in my life. My senior year in high school was the most difficult year of my life. While navigating through this time, I had teachers who I knew cared about me and were there for me unconditionally.  Dr. Wesche, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Denton, Mr. Collins, Mr. Curtis and Mr. Suddeth — just to name a few.

While some of these teachers are no longer at HHCA, they made a lasting impact on my life by showing me how cared for and loved I was in the midst of a traumatic situation. They cared deeply for me, and reminded me of my worth through Jesus. Going through the difficult time my senior year did not cause my faith to waver, and it’s because of the consistent guidance I had from these special people. Their support means the world to me and is something I will never forget or take for granted.

What advice would you give current students?

Stand up for yourself, stand up for others. Middle through high school is a hard time for everyone. You’re growing and learning who you are and a lot of changes happen through this time period. Have grace for yourself, and be kind to others. Be confident in your identity in Christ, because that is all that matters!  If you’ve experienced any kind of bullying or anyone being less than kind to you, circle back to your identity in Christ. Never forget it.

You are made in God's image, and you are loved and cared for by the creator of the universe.

What God says about you is what matters, not what others say. If you are going through a difficult time, don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the faculty at HHCA - they truly do care about you and are there to help.
