AP at HHCA

The pursuit of excellence permeates everything we do at HHCA, including Upper School academics.

With a wide variety of courses available, many HHCA Upper School students personalize their schedule each year by including AP courses—for increased academic rigor and for the opportunity to earn college credit. This year, 125 students are taking a combined total of 244 AP classes.

Each AP course is taught at a college level and audited by the College Board to ensure rigor and adherence to college-level curriculum standards. Students completing AP courses have the opportunity to earn college credit during their high school years and are required to take the corresponding Advanced Placement® test in May.

During the 2023-2024 school year, 97 students took a total of 181 AP exams, an increase from 69 students and 99 exams the previous year. Of particular importance, in addition to the growing number of students participating in AP courses, are their results.

HHCA’s AP students passed 155 of the 181 AP exams taken in spring 2024, showcasing an increasing success rate along with an incredible 86% pass rate.

Complimentary to the AP courses offered, HHCA students can earn the prestigious AP Capstone distinction, a diploma program based on two year-long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to complement other AP courses that the AP Capstone student may take.
AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program from College Board that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that colleges increasingly value. The program’s big ideas and learning objectives reflect core academic skills identified by leading educational organizations & College Board membership as needed for college, career, and life readiness.

AP Seminar, one of two courses required for the prestigious AP Capstone program, is an interdisciplinary course that encourages students to demonstrate critical thinking, collaboration, and academic research skills. Students at HHCA have the opportunity to take AP Seminar, along with AP Research, to earn the AP Capstone distinction.

HHCA is pleased to offer many academic opportunities to students, which not only set them apart but also build Christ-centered confidence and skills, preparing them to confidently impact the world.
