Mrs. Napier's 6th-grade English class put a fairy tale spin on justice this week, putting the infamous Big Bad Wolf on trial. The mock trial, a collaboration with Mr. Winter's Upper School mock trial team, transformed young students into budding lawyers and witnesses.
The defendant, alias Al T. Wolf, faced charges for the alleged "murders" of Straw and Stick Pig. Brayden Zietz playing Al T. Wolf remarked, "I never thought I'd say this, but I actually enjoyed being cross-examined.” It was like a verbal game of cat and mouse... or should I say wolf and pig?
Staff members and older students served as jury members, adding authenticity to the proceedings. Mr. Winter praised the 6th graders' quick adaptation to legal jargon: "They went from 'Once upon a time' to 'May it please the court' faster than you can say 'constitutional rights'!"
Principal Scarbro, a juror for the event, emphasized its educational value: "This activity perfectly encapsulates our school's commitment to innovative, engaging education. Plus, it's not every day you get to see the Big Bad Wolf squirm under cross-examination!"
The trial's outcome remains undisclosed, but one verdict was clear: Mrs. Napier's mock trial was a howling success, blending fairy tale fun with real-world learning. As the gavel fell, students left with newfound skills in argumentation, questioning, and collaboration – proving that sometimes, the best classrooms don't have walls, just witness stands.
