24-25 MS/US Academic Schedule
Next year, HHCA will move to a hybrid-block class schedule for MS and US students. It was thoughtfully developed by our academic leadership team, which includes Mrs. Tabatha Dewitt, the newly appointed Director of Academics and Technology.
The new schedule supports a continued focus on offering a variety of learning pathways and opportunities for students amid increasing participation in various programs such as Dual Enrollment and internships. In addition, it provides flexibility for students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses and those earning a Diploma With Distinction.
The length of the school day will remain exactly the same (8:00 AM-3:15 PM). As depicted in the snapshot below, students will attend all eight class periods on Mondays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, students will alternate the odd (1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th) and even (2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th) periods in 90-minute blocks. Fridays will continue in the same format on alternating weeks using “odd” and “even” periods.

Just a few of the ways this schedule benefits HHCA's unique, inquiry-based learning model:
INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PATHWAYS
Having eight class periods supports a variety of learning pathways that HHCA is committed to offering students such as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses, Dual Enrollment (DE) opportunities, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, internships, the Diploma with Distinction program, etc. while simultaneously ensuring core curriculum requirements are met.
YEAR-LONG CLASSES
Taking classes in a year-long schedule with extended learning times on days with 90-minute blocks supports collaborative, inquiry-based learning that can span subject areas and core competencies. Offering year-long classes with flexibility built in is known to improve learning outcomes and combat gaps in schedule, particularly in math. Bible will be offered as a year-long class for all MS & US students.
EARLY ELECTIVES
Electives and foreign language courses required for graduation can be offered in the freshman and sophomore years, which enables more flexibility for pathways such as dual enrollment, AP, fine arts opportunities, and internship options during the junior and senior years.
DEVELOPING INTERESTS
Beyond meeting and excelling in core curriculum requirements, the schedule supports our commitment to helping students discover and develop their unique interests and God-given talents. Dedicated time for clubs and activities on block days means students can "plug-in" to groups they wish to explore.
Our academic leadership team has been working hard to encapsulate the very best features of HHCA's unique, distinctly Christian, inquiry-based learning model. We are committed to continuing to evolve in order to offer the best possible experience for our students. This hybrid-block schedule is another step towards refining the individual learning pathways that we have been working to create for all students.
