🌊 Inquiry in Action | Learning from the Lowcountry

Hilton Head Christian Academy fifth graders graders took their study of Earth’s water systems outdoors with a hands-on exploration of the nearby Port Royal Sound.

Students recently brought their science learning to life during a field trip to the Port Royal Maritime Center, where classroom concepts met the real world. The experience was part of their Earth’s Water and Interconnected Systems study that explores how Earth’s four major systems interact through the water cycle, fresh and saltwater, and the impact of pollution.

Students rolled up their sleeves (and got their shoes muddy!) as they conducted water quality experiments, explored marsh ecosystems, and toured the Maritime Center to see local marine life up close. Each activity connected directly to their classroom inquiry questions: How does water move through the earth? How does it shape the environments and living things around us?

It was a messy and meaningful day of learning. Hands-on experiences like this help students understand that God’s creation is deeply interconnected—and that we have a role in caring for it.
