HHCA Lower School Celebrates Student Success in Math, Reading, Robotics, and Spelling

As the 2024–2025 school year concludes, HHCA's Lower School students are soaring to new heights, shining brightly in academics and extracurriculars. Through math competitions, reading programs, robotics innovation, and spelling excellence, our young learners have demonstrated both skill and character.


🧠 Math Kangaroo Success

This spring, our 3rd–5th-grade students participated in Math Kangaroo, an international mathematics competition designed to stretch students’ problem-solving and logic skills. Coached by Mrs. Atkins after school, students tackled a challenging 35-question paper test in 90 minutes.

We are proud to announce that eight HHCA students placed in the top 20 in the state of South Carolina, including a top 5 finisher!

📚 Accelerated Reader (AR) Awards

Reading achievement continues to thrive at HHCA. Congratulations to our top Accelerated Reader students for earning the highest point totals in the school this year:

📖 Banks DeChirico (4th grade) – 290 points
📖 Bowman DeChirico (3rd grade) – 280 points
📖 Gaines Guess (1st grade) – 255 points


🤖 VEX Robotics Team Awards

This year’s Lower School VEX Robotics team, open to 4th and 5th graders interested in STEM, gave students the opportunity to explore engineering and coding in a competitive environment. Competing in the VEX IQ Challenge, team members designed, built, and programmed robots to tackle a variety of challenges.
