Lower School Robotics Teams Travel to State Championship

Two of HHCA's Lower School competitive robotics teams wrapped up an outstanding season this weekend at the South Carolina State VEX IQ Championship in Greenville, and it was a great finish to their season.

Competing against the top elementary teams from across the state, Team Riptide (Josie Hartman, Wyatt Marshall, and George Cooke) held a Top 10 ranking throughout the tournament. Their consistency, strategic driving, and strong teamwork carried them all the way to the finals round, where they competed among the very best teams in South Carolina. Their composure under pressure and ability to adapt match after match reflected their hard work this season.

Our second team, Team Wavemaker (Cailean Holmes and Willa James Coley), also delivered an exceptional performance — earning two of VEX IQ's most meaningful honors: the Sportsmanship Award and the Inspire Award.

The Sportsmanship Award recognizes a team that exemplifies respect, encouragement, and character throughout the competition. Judges look for teams that compete with integrity, treat others graciously, and represent their school well both on and off the field.

The Inspire Award is one of the highest honors presented at a VEX IQ event. It celebrates a team that demonstrates excellence in robot design, teamwork, problem-solving, and overall preparedness, both in competition matches and in interviews with judges. This award reflects not only technical skill but also strong collaboration and a deep understanding of the engineering design process.

As this event concludes our competitive robotics season, we could not be prouder of all of our Lower School teams. Their dedication, resilience, creativity, and teamwork have defined this year’s journey. Finishing the season with a Finals appearance and multiple prestigious awards at the State Championship is a tremendous accomplishment.

Congratulations to our student engineers for representing HHCA with excellence, character, and heart. We are excited to see how they continue building, designing, and leading in the seasons to come.

Go Eagles!
