HHCA Eagles Varsity Baseball is once again on top!
With a decisive 7-3 win over Ben Lippen in Game 3 of the championship series, the Eagles captured their second consecutive State Championship on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The team went 5-1 in the postseason, capping off a remarkable 22-9 season and further solidifying HHCA’s place in SCISA 4A baseball.
βΎοΈ The Eagles' Playoff Journey
The championship capped a gritty and exciting playoff run for HHCA. The Eagles opened the state tournament with a thrilling 7-3 extra-inning win over Laurence Manning on April 29. They followed it up with a 13-6 win over Cardinal Newman and a 3-2 victory in the rematch, securing their spot in the three-game title series facing an experienced Ben Lippen team.
After falling 5-1 in Game 1 at their opponent's field, the Eagles responded with back-to-back wins—a 16-6 blowout at home to force Game 3, and the 7-3 championship clincher on neutral turf.
π Clinching the Crown
Fans packed Mirmow Field in Orangeburg for the title matchup. HHCA Athletics organized a spirited student section and took more than 50 students to the game on a chartered Eagles fan bus. Eagles fans showed up in full Americana with the red, white, and blue theme, adding to the championship atmosphere.
The Eagles also carried the heart of one teammate who couldn’t take the field with them. Eighth grader Stone Burd was unable to attend at the last minute, but his presence was unmistakable. Inspired to play in his honor, the team took the field with purpose.
Before the first pitch, Ben Lippen's Head Coach suggested both teams gather together in a circle of prayer.
Chip Hetzel delivered a standout performance on the mound, throwing six strong innings while allowing just three hits and no earned runs. He also contributed at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in another, helping to lead the Eagles to victory on the biggest stage of the season.
Offensively, HHCA was relentless. Jackson Richardson drove in a game-high four RBIs, including a clutch bases-clearing triple that broke open the scoring early. Anthony Seminara added two hits and an RBI, while Eli Morgan scored twice and contributed two hits of his own.
The Eagles scored in five of seven innings, using disciplined at-bats and aggressive base running to keep consistent pressure on Ben Lippen. The win marked a major milestone for Head Coach Jay Scarbro, who guided this young, determined team to a championship in his first year at the helm.
π₯ A Foundation for the Future
What defines this team goes beyond the trophy. It’s the foundation they’re laying for the future.
With just one senior—Hayden Brooks—and a first-year head coach in Jay Scarbro, the young Eagles team may not have been the obvious pick for dominance. But from day one, they operated differently--rooted in faith, brotherhood, a shared desire to play for an Audience of One.
From the start, we talked more about who we are than what we do. This team showed up for each other, played with humility and purpose, and committed to giving God their best every single day. That’s the culture we are building, and it’s what made this season so special.
~ Head Coach Jay Scarbro
With nearly the entire roster returning, the future is as bright as the culture that fuels it. Leading the team alongside Coach Scarbro are Assistant Coaches Danny Morgan, Nick Williamsen, and Eddie Rodriguez.
