Eagles Jazz Band Participates in Essentially Ellington Regional at USC

HHCA's Eagles Jazz Band, under the direction of Fine Arts Director James Berry, recently participated in the 2nd Annual Essentially Ellington Regional Festival at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

This event, held on Monday, 2/23, was organized in partnership with the University of South Carolina Jazz Studies and Jazz at Lincoln Center and provided high school jazz bands across the Southeast with a valuable opportunity to perform the music of legendary American composer Duke Ellington, alongside chosen selections, in a supportive performance and clinic format. Participants received feedback and instruction from nationally recognized clinicians.

Selected as one of only 10 schools in the Southeast region, the 19-member Eagles Jazz Band delivered an impressive set of four pieces: Killer Joe, Flamingo, Jumpin’ at the Woodside, and Feeling Good.

A highlight of the day came during the awards ceremony, when junior Mallory Krimm was recognized as an overall award-winning soloist for her outstanding performance.

The students had an enriching and enjoyable experience, gaining inspiration and valuable insights to fuel their continued growth. They are now eagerly preparing for their spring concert in May.

Great job, Eagles!
