The HHCA community gathered on Friday, April 25, 2025, to celebrate a milestone that will impact generations of students to come: the official dedication of the Daniel & Julie Kinzie Upper School Commons— a beautiful, vibrant space designed for connection, collaboration, and mentorship.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome and opening remarks, acknowledging the many who had gathered for the special occasion. Guests of honor were Daniel and Julie Kinzie, along with their daughter Hadley, a 9th-grader at HHCA, and Julie’s sister, Jennifer. The Kinzie family has been a part of the Lowcountry community - and the HHCA community - for many years, and their passion for education and commitment to faith-filled learning have been a true inspiration to all.
Today is a meaningful day in the life of our school community. Because of families like the Kinzie's, our students have the opportunity to learn, lead, and grow in spaces like this one.
- Doug Langhals, HHCA Head of School
The new Kinzie Commons is more than just a classroom space—it is a gathering place, a hub of community life where students and mentors will forge relationships, spark ideas, and grow in wisdom and faith. It stands as a permanent testament to the Kinzie family’s generosity, love for HHCA, and unwavering belief in Christian education.
The celebration also included a touching tribute just outside the Commons—a tree dedicated in memory of Chuck and Emma Wallin, Julie and Jennifer’s parents. Their story, shared with the gathered guests, reflected a legacy of perseverance, sacrifice, and deep Christian faith. Both from Northern Indiana, Chuck served our country in the Korean War and earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University on the GI Bill. Their mother, Emma, was also very intelligent, graduating valedictorian of her high school. Despite this remarkable achievement she attained, her family couldn’t afford to send her to college. They were loving parents and sacrificed for Julie and Jennifer, providing them with a wonderful upbringing in a Christian home.
Today’s dedication is a reminder that behind every generous act is a story of love, faith, and purpose. We are honored to memorialize the legacy of Chuck and Emma Wallin on the Hilton Head Christian Academy campus today.
- Haley Labrot, HHCA Director of Development
The HHCA community is grateful for the Kinzie's generosity and for their ongoing commitment to HHCA.
