DEVELOPING ARTISTS. DEVELOPING PURPOSE.

Through HHCA's Visual Arts, students are encouraged to discover their creativity, develop their artistic skills, and learn to communicate ideas through visual expression. From their first experiences with color and texture in Lower School to advanced studio work in Upper School, students are given opportunities to explore, create, and grow as artists.

Visual Arts at HHCA is about more than learning how to draw, paint, sculpt, or design.  It is about discovering how God has uniquely created each student, developing the gifts He has given them, and learning how those gifts can be used to create, communicate, serve, and contribute to His story.

We want our students to leave HHCA not only with stronger artistic skills, but with the confidence to create boldly, think creatively, and use their gifts with purpose.

Our Visual Arts program provides a K–12 pathway where students can build skills over time while discovering the mediums, techniques, and creative disciplines that inspire them most.

Lower School

Our youngest artists are introduced to the joy of creating through age-appropriate projects that encourage imagination, experimentation, and confidence. Students explore a variety of materials, techniques, and artistic concepts while learning to see the world around them in new ways.

Art Beyond the School Day
The creativity continues beyond the classroom! After-school and summer art camps are offered for Lower School students throughout the year, giving young artists additional opportunities to explore new mediums, create hands-on projects, and develop their artistic skills in a fun and encouraging environment.

Middle School

As students move into Middle School, they have opportunities to develop their artistic skills and explore new forms of visual expression.

Studio Art
Students build foundational skills while exploring a variety of artistic mediums and techniques. Through hands-on projects, students learn to make creative choices, solve artistic problems, and develop their own visual voice.

Media Art
Students explore art through contemporary and digital media, discovering new ways to communicate ideas and create visual work in an increasingly digital world.

Upper School

Upper School students can pursue increasingly advanced and specialized opportunities in the Visual Arts, allowing them to develop technical skills, creative thinking, and a personal body of work. Courses include:

Design Fundamentals
Drawing
Painting
Sculpture
Ceramics
Yearbook
AP Art

These courses challenge students to move beyond simply making art and begin thinking like artists and designers.

 

 

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMERGING ARTISTS

Throughout the school year, student artwork will be displayed throughout our campus and at HHCA performing arts events, giving students opportunities to see their work become part of the visual life of our school community.

Students will also have opportunities to experience art beyond the classroom through local galleries, exhibits, installations, and visiting artists.

SPRING ALL-SCHOOL ART SHOW

This spring, HHCA will host an All-School Art Show, celebrating the creativity of our students from across the school.

POTTERY JAM!

A new HHCA Fine Arts tradition is coming this winter that will give HHCA families an opportunity to create together through a hands-on pottery experience.

"Go with the Waves" by freshman Cole Castor was awarded First Place and “Best of Show,” by the judges from the Society of Bluffton Artists (SOBA) at last year's 8th grade art show at the Bluffton Library.

"Vibrations of the Seen and Unseen" by senior Mallory Krimm placed 3rd at the 2026 Island School Council for the Arts “Promising Picassos” Art Exhibit!
