2023 MIDDLE SCHOOL RETREAT

• 8th graders should arrive at the school and meet in the gym at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, October 11 and bring money for lunch on the bus.
   
• 6th & 7th graders should meet at the school in the gym at 8:00 AM on Thursday, October 12. 
   
• All Middle School students will return to HHCA around 2:45 PM on Friday, October 13.

Cage Clash Teams These teams are a mixture of boys and girls from all Middle School Grades!

Capture The Flag

These teams/dress-up themes are by grade

• 6th Grade: Favorite Sports Team
• 7th Grade: Pink Out
• 8th Grade: USA 

UPDATE: With rain in the weather forecast, please pack rain gear knowing that students may be walking outside from time to time!

• Your Bible & a pen
• Casual, modest clothing for 2-3 days (plenty of outdoor games & activities are in store)
• Modest pajamas
• Girls: a one-piece bathing suit
• Boys: swim trunks 
• Beach/pool towel
• Dress Up theme clothing for "Capture the Flag" and Cage Clash teams as outlined above
• Toiletries & a towel for showering
• Pillow, sheets & blanket or sleeping bag
• Snacks that are sealable

NOTE: We ask that all students bring one case of small water bottles!

Do not bring anything that is Illegal or not allowed at HHCA.

Retreat should be a time of interaction with friends, class bonding, and the chance to get away from everything (including electronics). With this in mind, students should leave their phones at home.

In the case of an emergency (if you need to talk to your student or they need to contact you) Mr. Michael Spangler and Mr. Jason Suddeth will have their cell phones with them at all times during the retreat.

Administration of Medication at Retreat

Students are not allowed to bring medications on a retreat unless all self-medicating forms have been returned to the school nurse for approval.

If a student is required to take medication during the retreat, only the school nurse or nurse-trained, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) will administer the medication. The medication will be administered in compliance with the regulations that follow:

Prescription Medications:
Prescription medications cannot be administered on the retreat without the HHCA Prescription Medication Authorization Form that must be signed and dated by both the physician and parent. This includes epi-pens and inhalers. All students with allergies requiring epi-pens, inhalers or seizures MUST have an Action Plan Form signed by the physician and uploaded. 

Medication must be in its original, current pharmacy container, with a pharmacy label. Please only send the amount needed for the retreat. The medication and form should then be packaged in a large Ziplock bag for transportation.

We will not accept late medications.

If your child already has a prescription medication in the clinic that is routinely administered during the school day, that medication will automatically accompany the student.

Emergency Medication (Life-threatening Situations)
Medication will be administered by the school nurse, or by other school personnel trained by the school nurse (UAP), to students who have a history of serious allergic reactions or health conditions, which may require specific medication(s) for certain life-threatening circumstances. All Epi-Pen’s, inhalers and lifesaving medications that are currently stored in the clinic will accompany the student on retreat. If you would like to send extra medications for backup, please send these in no later than 10/6/23.

Over-the-Counter Medications: (OTC) 
1. Stock over-the-counter medications are available to students on the retreat and can be given with parental consent (given in Magnus Health Portal). Stock medications available on the retreat include Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Tums, and Benadryl.

2. Any non-stock OTC medications requested by the parent or guardian to be given to the student requires written parental permission as well as the medication. Written permission MUST include:

a.       Child’s Name
b.       Name of Medication
c.       Dosage
d.       Purpose of Medication
e.       Time to be Administered
f.        Route of Medication 

Parents are responsible for picking up medications and packaging from the clinic following the retreat.

Peanut and Nut-Free Retreat

To ensure the safety of our students, ALL peanuts, nuts, and nut products are strictly prohibited for retreat. This includes while traveling on the bus to and from retreat.

We have several students with life-threatening allergies to peanuts, nuts, and nut products. For these students, exposure to any nut allergens in any way (skin contact or ingestion) could result in anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal condition requiring immediate medical attention.

We ask that all parents/guardians be conscientious in the selection of snacks your child brings to retreat to eliminate the chance of these children being exposed.

The school nurse, under exceptional circumstances, retains the discretion to reject requests for administration of medication. A log of administered medications will be maintained.
